Winter Girl Wendy, Saalfield, 1952

Winter has finally arrived, and reminded me that I hadn't posted Winter Girl Wendy yet.
(I posted the other side, Summer Girl Sue, in July.)
Both dolls are nicely illustrated.

Princess Tania in Jane Arden, ca. 1934

The princess was likely a visitor to the world of Jane Arden in the 1930s. A wonderful era for fashion.

Fritzi's Fashions, 1937

Fritzi Ritz was a popular comic strip in the 1930s but  her niece, Nancy, outlasted her in popular culture. I was reading the Nancy and Sluggo comic strip in the 1960s, but didn't know about Fritzi until I started collecting paper dolls in 2003.

Sally O'Neil in "Jazz Heaven, 1929" by Bob Harman

At first I thought this was Ruby Keeler, but this is an early film actress called Sally O'Neil. She was a WAMPAS Baby Star of 1926--a class that included Dolores Costello, Mary Astor and Joan Crawford.

WAMPAS--the Western Association of Motion Picture Advertisers--promoted budding young stars while also raising the profile of the publicity agents behind the star-making machinery.

Sally O'Neil's heyday was in the silent films of the 1920s.
