Marie-Claire, August 1943
A darling hat to protect one's face from the summer sun.
I went in search of how Marie-Claire continued to publish during the German occupation of France.
AI says it suspended publication for the duration of the war, but not so. There was a brief suspension in 1942,
The issue pictured here is from 1943; D-Day and liberation by Allied forces was still 10 months away. You can read more here about the magazine during the war years.

Marguerite Clark, 1919 Movy-Dol
I was happy to find one on Laura Cushing's sales table.
Movy-Dols were published in 1919, and the artist is Percy Reeves.
To see more Movy-Dols, check out the Patti Fertel Collection.
Just put Movy in the search box.

Sister Prue as a Bride, 1910
This is part of a series of "Polly's Paper Playmates" that ran as a supplement to the Baltimore American, and possibly other newspapers as well. Sister Prue as a Bride was published in the November 27, 1910 issue of the Baltimore American.
Similar to the Boston Herald Lady, these paper dolls are a window on fashion history, society and the newspaper business more than 100 years ago.

A rather stern visage for rabbits, for those of us more familiar
with Beatrix Potter and Bugs Bunny!

An apron for every task
"Dolls of Many Lands," (Whitman, 1932) is one of my favorite sets.
Gretel of Holland has an apron for working in the garden, knitting and,
of course, kitchen work.
