This beautiful set was the People's Choice of the Competition. Artist Toshie Dahlberg is the daughter-in-law of the late Pat Dahlberg, a long time artist/collector.

Tasha Tudor paper dolls

I believe this is the original art by Tasha Tudor, better known for her children's book illustrations. I know of two paper dolls by this artist, but there may be more out there. From the Convention Competition.

Barbara Barnett paper dolls

The fabulous paper dolls created by Barbara Barnett, using vintage wallpaper. Years ago Barbara and her sister collaborated on paper doll sets, "Off the Wall" by the Jones Sisters.  Highly collectible, inspiring to paper doll artists everywhere. From the 2011 convention Competition.

On the Campus, c. 1932

 

Kathleen Taylor asked for more information about this set, which was an entry in this year's convention competition. I looked through my Mary Young guidebook, and discovered this set was published by Samuel Gabriel Sons & Co.  No year listed but 1932 would be a safe guess, given the fashions  and hairstyles. The set was sold on eBay last year, and the seller was generous in posting pictures, which I saved to my computer. These sets are rare to find uncut :

There are other Gabriel sets that come up for auction once in a while that are also lovely, with similar box art, "Just from College," and "Just from Paris." The illustrations evoke a world of adventure and possibility. Here is "Just from College," images captured from another eBay auction:

Xenia and Martha in Hawaii

Martha Raively shared with us a true family heirloom: paper dolls she created of her and her sister growing up in Hawaii, with all  costumes taken from actual pictures. This was my personal favorite in the Competition.
