"The cup that cheers but does not inebriate." As collectors know, paper dolls are a great way to see how advertising evolved over the last 100 years. Ad copy tended toward the verbose and flowery. Children played with these paper toys, and they were not exempt from the hard sell -- as even back then it was understood that children could urge a purchase for the sake of acquiring the latest cut-out in the series.
