Ginger and Beauregard paper doll by Margaret Menamin
This 1989 paper doll by Margaret Menamin was a birthday gift for Carol Carey. The doll appears to be an illustration for an advertisement, or perhaps a short story in a magazine. Menamin's imagination took off from there to create her wardrobe.

More Julia Boyd Patterns, c. 1930s
I posted two outfits for this doll three years ago, and you can see them here. The outfits are by Carol Carey; the fur jacket bottom right is a magazine photo that is nearly a perfect fit.
But the Jayne Keller dress I posted in 2010 is still the best -- a delicate pencil and watercolor. I found the hat that goes with it:
Sweet!

Betty Bonnet's Dearest Dolls, part 3
Here's the last of the cut set from the June 1916 Ladies Home Journal. The handmade clothes are simple and sweet, and unusual because they are for the boy doll. It's possible the girl's handmade clothing were played with more frequently, and didn't survive.

Claire paper doll
Carol Carey, Pat Whalen and I had fun designing for the small version of a 1950s doll. The doll was cut from a Judy Johnson postcard. Judy has many wonderful reproductions of hard-to-find paper dolls at www.papergoodies.com.

Handmade clothes, vintage doll
"Mother" by Tina Lee appeared in Jack and Jill, April 1940. I had some fun with her for the New York City paper doll club. I posted the original doll here.

Mystery paper doll
Pat Whalen of the NYC paper doll group sent this cutie for our round robin of design. Anyone know what set or book it's from? These are my primitive collage outfits, using old wallpaper and contemporary scrap paper. No way I could draw that arm, so I copied and pasted her arm when necessary!

Boots, c. 1920s
A newspaper paper doll, with clothing to color never fails to inspire others to design their own wardrobe...
as one little girl did in the 1920s, above and below...
Margaret Menamin was inspired to copy and color the doll, and create dresses from magazine fashion photos, artfully adapted to the doll, a Menamin specialty...
