The Man from Independence, 1979
The Independence Missouri Doll Club published this Harry Truman paper doll in 1979, with drawings by Heather Latham and Donna Newton. Members recalled seeing Truman taking his famous brisk walks around town; at the time this paper doll booklet came out, Bess Truman was still living in Independence,Mo. on Delaware St. (Remember to click left click on each image to get a readable view.) There's a wonderful homespun, folk-art quality to the drawings, and the fact that club members had a personal connection to the Trumans makes this extra-special. Thanks to Sheryl Jaeger for spotting this one and sending it along.
