Black cat, 1907

Now that Halloween is over, the black cat can assume its natural benign pose: just another kitty enjoying a saucer of milk. Master John McGowan of Charles Street in New York City received this from his cousin Mildred 103 years ago. The card was printed in Germany by S. Langsdorf & Co.

  1. Sweet card. I think that in 1907 people weren't accustomed to writing messages on the cards, since they had just switched from cards where that wasn't allowed. I wonder if they were being cautious or if they just didn't feel the need for a message.

  2. It does seem sparse, "From cousin Mildred" and that's it.
