Jumbo for Willimantic Thread, c. 1880s




I found this gem in my own backyard, at the "Always Nostalgia" shop in Bogota, N.J. Last year I found a small booklet that described the phenomenon that was Jumbo.

    I have some cards from Willimantic Thread too (a funny name!)
    I know it's just a drawing, so why do I still feel bad for the elephant?

    Jumbo was absolutely exploited in real life. No getting around it. One of PT Barnum's extravaganzas, shipping him to U.S.
