ANTIQUING !!
I'll bet that you thought that Antiquing in the Los Angeles area was an
lost cause because a Southern California "antique" is anything made
before 2008 !!
To the contrary. There are some excellent places for real Antique
treasure-hunting in the Los Angeles area, including some fine
Antique Malls. So - - let's take a look at some.
In the Mid-Wilshire/Fairfax area, there are 3 Antiquing venues.
Vintage Weave Interiors is set up as a French Flea Market, and is
outstanding for Parisian imports and farmhouse-style antiques.
They have everything French from, Brasserie hooks to wire baskets;
antique textiles, from pillows to tablecloths to aprons; antique
glassware, and even a snazzy Laguidle folding pocket knife.
Open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 11:30 AM to 5 PM.
They're at 7928 West 3rd Street in Los Angeles, about 12.4 miles
(20 minutes) from your Convention Hotel. Telephone:(323) 932-0451.
The Shine Gallery has thousands of never-used memorabilia items
from 1910 to the 1950s, including Howdy Doody and Kewpie dolls,
presidential buttons, and Disney memorabilia to name just a few.
While I wouldn't count on Paper Dolls at the Shine Gallery, they
have a lot of other vintage items!
They're at 6333 West 3rd Street, #134, Los Angeles.
The telephone number is (323) 954-4700. They're also 12.4 miles
(20 minutes) from your Convention Hotel.
It's open Monday-Friday 9 AM-9 PM, Saturday 9 AM-8 PM
Sunday 10 AM-7 PM.
The Melrose Trading Post is a Sunday Street Fair with some 250
vendors. It has a jazz band, a food court, and is very popular.
Located in the parking lot of the Fairfax High School at 7850 Melrose
Ave. in Los Angeles, it's 13 miles (21 minutes) from the Hotel.
It's open 9 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. Admission is $2.00 USD.
In the North Hollywood area ("NoHo"), the NoHo Antique Row has
5 shops that you may find interesting. Generally, they're open from
11 AM to 6 PM weekdays and Saturdays, but call ahead to be sure.
You'll find anything and everything in these shops, from Mid-century and
antique items to collectibles, from junk to jewels. If you love to browse
and poke, seeking that hitherto-unrecognized treasure, this is for you.
They're located near each other in the 5600-5700 blocks of
Lankershim Boulevard in Los Angeles, 27.9 miles (30 minutes)
from your Convention Hotel:
Cruz Antiques at 5616 Lankershim Blvd. Telephone (818) 762-1140.
Angel's Antiques at 5630 1/3 Lankershim. .
Santiago's Antiques Shop 5645 Lankershim Blvd.
Telephone (818) 445-8410.
Zaven Fine Art and Antiques is at 5657 Lankershim Blvd.
Telephone (818) 766-8348.
Frank's Antiques at 5659 Lankershim Blvd. Telephone (818) 762-4054.
On Ventura Boulevard you'll find a dandy Antique Mall.
It's the Sherman Oaks Antique Mall, and its 95 Dealers have a
wonderful mix of Victorian, Art Deco, china, toys, reference books,
kitsch, costume jewelry, and more. The Mall is open 7 days a week.
Monday-Saturday 11 AM - 6 PM. Sunday 12 noon to 5 PM.
It's located at 14034 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA,
22.6 miles (25 minutes) from your Hotel. Telephone is (818) 906-0338.
In Whittier, CA, there's a super-duper Antique Mall.
It's King Richard's Antiques, and you'll love it !
It has 47,000 square feet of Antiques accommodating 260 Dealers
across three floors, and is the largest Antique Mall in California.
The Dealers specialize in antique and period furniture, antique and
vintage jewelry, vintage clothing, and collectibles. They have
case after case, table after table, packed with marvelous stuff.
They're open Monday-Friday 10 AM - 6 PM, Saturday 10 AM - 7 PM,
and Sunday 10 AM - 6 PM. The lower level closes 30 minutes early
and is very large, so give yourself plenty of time to peruse everything.
