This has to be one of the creepiest paper dolls I've ever seen, but maybe that's because of the wink-wink reputation of traveling salesmen, you know, the farmer's daughter and all that. Uncle Bill looks like he has a few stories to share. The tail in the upper left hand corner must belong to an adjacent comic strip. That old coat and sweater betrays another life...or maybe I've been watching too much film noir lately.
He does look a bit smarmy!
ReplyDeleteI had an Uncle Bill, but he was an auto mechanic and a very nice man!
ReplyDeleteI find it funny that of the 2 outfits he gets, one is an "old coat and sweater" that he wears when he is at home. What female paper doll of that era (or any other) can you think of who is given a ratty old article of clothing she wears when no one is there to see her? I can't decide if this seems wrong because female paper dolls never get to relax in their old clothes, or because male paper dolls really should make more of an effort! I mean, they only get so much space on the page, why waste it with something old and worn, why not a sporty sweater or a wool blazer?
