Elinor paper doll ca. 1915

Elinor has a hat for each outfit, and the red dress has her affixing her hat just so.

(I first shared this doll 15 years ago!)

Marie-Claire, August 1943

A darling hat to protect one's face from the summer sun.

I went in search of how Marie-Claire continued to publish during the German occupation of France.

AI says it suspended publication for the duration of the war, but not so. There was a brief suspension in 1942,

The issue pictured here is from 1943; D-Day and liberation by Allied forces was still 10 months away. You can read more here about the magazine during the war years.

Mabel by Jimmy Murphy, ca. 1943

How does Mabel fit that hat over her curly locks? I'm guessing it sits way back on her head.

The Latest Fashion

Cleveland, June 27, 1910

I was thinking you might not have any of these in your collection of postal cards that is the reason I send you this. Thank you for the one you sent me. My best regards and good wishes to both of you.

This one is no longer in my collection. I sent it to the writer who wrote this book; pick it up and you'll see why.

Also, hats will be covered in an upcoming issue of Paperdoll Review. Why not subscribe to make sure you don't miss it?
