Children's Play Mate, September 1949
This Children's Playmate is special for several reasons. Sure, it's a Fern Bisel Peat cover. And the inside paper dolls by Angela Price prompt the reader's creativity with a simple template for designs. But what really makes this magazine special is that Paula Hill owned it as a child. That's her maiden name up top and her first name spelled out on the basketball backboard, and other graffiti on the cover ("You are nice.") Paula tells me she found pen pals through the Play Mate magazine, and kept in touch for many years--even recently getting together with one! Now that's a gift for friendship.
